A Prodigiously Talented Voice Maker, tenor James K. McCully is a world class voice instructor, vocal coach, accompanist, conductor and acting instructor in the greater Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.



For over a decade, James K. McCully served as a National Endowment for the Arts Opera Music Theater Fellow and On-Site Evaluator of professional Opera and Musical Theater companies, and Emerging Artists Training Programs across the nation.

With over 33 years of  teaching experience, James K. McCully has served on the voice faculties of Catholic University of America, National Conservatory and co-taught musical theater classes with Kennedy Center's American College Theater Festival  producing director Dr. David Young.

​

​James K. McCully adjudicated the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions with Paris Opera artistic director Bernard LeFort, the winner now Metropolitan Opera soprano Jan Grissom; and the National Opera Vocal Competition with Metropolitan Opera tenor George Shirley, the winner now Metropolitan Opera mezzo-soprano Dana Beth Miller.



​James K. McCully served as an Arts & Humanities Nominator for the Heinz Foundation's prestigious $250,000 Heinz Awards. Recipients of these prestigious awards were Metropolitan Opera soprano Beverly Sills and Metropolitan Opera composer John Harbison.



James K. McCully students have received professional contracts from Actors Equity Association and American Guild of Musical Artists opera houses and theaters, and performed for Kennedy Center, Metropolitan Opera,Washington National Opera, Baltimore Opera, Virginia Opera, Arena Stage, Shakespeare Theatre, Studio Theater, Signature Theater,

International/National Tours, National Cathedral, National

Shrine, National Cemetery, National Theatre, PBS, The White

House, Presidents and Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.



James K. McCully currently works with professional musicians

and actors, post graduates from the Juilliard School, Manhattan

School of Music, Academy of Vocal Arts, Cincinnati

Conservatory of Music, Royal Academy of  Music in London,

as well as, military chorus members, mega church worship

leaders, emerging actor singers, and anyone wanting to improve

their performing musical abilities.

James K. McCully holds Certificates in the Royal Opera House and Shakespeare's Globe from
King's College London, Royal School Of Choir Music: The Art Of Choir Singing from Virginia Theological Seminary, RSCM Mentoring Program at Westminster Choir College
and Music Performance Psychology from The Juilliard School in New York City.

James K. McCully offers his students the opportunity to Sing On Stage with professionals at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall in New York City.
